Devika Coles is originally from the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii. She is passionate about teaching yoga to people of all ages and abilities. Devika moved to Geneva with her family from New York City in 2012, where she taught media arts and yoga in a public high school for six years to immigrant youth who were learning English. As a mother of two very active girls, her own personal yoga practice helps keeps her grounded and centered.
Devika believes that yoga is a moving meditation. She uses fluid movement with precise alignment instructions to allow individuals more time to move mindfully through yoga asana sequences. Her prenatal yoga course helps women physically and mentally prepare for childbirth by combining yoga postures with specific breathing, meditation, and visualization techniques. In her postnatal yoga classes, she uses gentle pelvic floor exercises, core-strengthening movements, and yoga postures (that include baby) to help women rehabilitate after childbirth and bond with their baby. Breath work (Pranayama) is incorporated in all classes to help individuals deepen their practice and become more aware of their body-mind connection.
Devika has practiced yoga in the Shivananda, Ashtanga, and Iyengar lineages of yoga. She has a Masters of Art in Art Education from New York University and she recently completed a 200-hour yoga teacher-training program through YogaWorks, a studio based in the US.
